Six Panel Chinese Dressing screen:  "What Happened?!"

This six panel chinese dressing screen came into EH, having gotten off worse in a head-on collision with its owner on one side (we found the impact of their nose) and a bed post on the other.

Three conservators were called in for the treatment as the object was made of wood, paper, and then covered in silk. The internal structure was badly damaged, paper and silk torn and hanging like mangled wrapping paper. A very sad sight indeed.

Andrew removed the outer frame to expose the edges of the silk covered paper so that Victoria and Robin could remove the damaged screen covering in order to glue it and stitch it from either side. It was all re-assembled before we returned it back to its owner. It was a team effort, but the result speaks for itself.
